Y chromosome
This is a male (sex) chromosome. It is one of 46 chromosomes (23 pairs).Eggs do
not contain Y chromosome and therefore women have no Y chromosome. Men with
very low sperm counts ( <5million/ml) may have abnormalities of Y chromosomes. In these men, it is
recommended that Y chromosome is examined with a blood test to check for a
missing part. If present, sperm from these men will reproduce male infertility.
Yolk sac
It is a structure that helps transporting nutrients to early embryo. It is seen
as a small circle inside the pregnancy sac on ultrasound scan around 5 weeks of
gestation (one week after missed period) before the embryo appears.
